This lightweight fabric is easy to hang, and provides a romantic, fairytale feel. Young girls will especially love this canopy as it can instantly turn any bed into a sleeping area worthy of a princess. You can use plain white tulle or select a color that matches the room's decor. With a few affordable supplies, this bed canopy can be easily constructed in a single afternoon.
Hula-Hoop Pencil Ladder Chandelier hook 8 yards of tulle Cord Hot glue gun
Step1
Determine the placement for your canopy. If you want the canopy to cover the entire bed, you should hang the canopy around the middle. Alternately, you can hang the canopy over the head of the bed so that the bottom half is left uncovered. Hold up the Hula-Hoop to determine where you want it. Then, hold the hoop against the ceiling and make a mark in the center of the circle with a pencil.
Step2
Screw the chandelier hook into the ceiling where you made your pencil mark. Center this in a ceiling beam if possible. Move the bed out of the way and use a ladder for this step to ensure stable footing.
Step3
Cut a length of cord 3 feet long. Securely knot one end of the cord around the Hula-Hoop. Glue it in place with the hot glue gun. Repeat three times so that the hoop has four lengths of cord tied to it at even intervals.
Step4
Join the four lengths of cord together approximately 1 foot from the end and knot them together. The hoop should hang evenly when held from the knot. Adjust as needed until the hoop hangs perfectly parallel to the floor.
Step5
Lay your tulle out flat, then fold it in half lengthwise. Place the hula hoop inside the tulle, and gather the fabric together at the top, just above the knot in the cord. Secure the fabric here with another length of cord. The remaining lengths of cord from the Hula-Hoop should protrude from the top of the fabric.
Step6
Knot the four lengths of cord together again at the top. You will hang the canopy from the ceiling by hooking this over the chandelier hook. Hang the canopy up from the knot and adjust the height as necessary. When the knot is placed correctly, tighten it and dab with hot glue to ensure that the knot will not slip.
Step7
Adjust the canopy fabric as desired. To keep in place, you can dot the edges of the Hula-Hoop with glue and secure the fabric. This step is optional as the fabric can be left freely hanging to allow for readjustments.
