Choose A Style

There are several canopy styles from which to choose. Which one you go with is determined more by your current situation than by what your taste might be. If you want the type of canopy with a large square of fabric over the top of it, you could be looking at a lot
 of work and some extra materials. If you want the type that has the "mosquito net" type thing suspended over it, you need to think about ceiling supports. Before you commit to too much here you need to think into the future a bit. If you will be moving sometime in the future, how will that affect this bed? Also, will your present ceiling even support hooks and other necessary materials? You will want to take into account any objects nearby that may be a problem like windows, or bookcases and even closets.

Get Accurate Measurements

You need to do your measuring very carefully. You need to find the distance between where the supports might be, such as the ceiling or overhead beams, and the ending point of your canopy. This could be where it touches the floor or to any ruffling around posts. You then need to figure on leaving an additional foot for sewing and trimming.

Choose Your Fabric

Lightweight fabrics are best for this type of thing. You do not want to cut down on the air flow when you are in bed. If you want something transparent you can use filmy see-through curtain fabric very nicely. When you make the purchase, however, be sure and buy more than what you need so you can be sure you can finish it off.
